Friendly service, cool historical place to have a drink. We ordered the T Bone Medium Rare and it was well done, so that was disappointing but they gave us a free drink. Join the Bitters Club!

Joined the Bitters club today. Had a fabulous drink and a delicious fresh grilled white fish sandwich, cleaned today in Gills Rock.

While a little run down and the food is not that great, you must stop and join the Bitters Club. The history is great and the atmosphere is a throwback to the old days on the island.

Had a great time there good food good drinks and we also joined the bidders club.

This place is one of our favorites. The atmosphere is so quaint and the pours are generous. The Bitters Club is on our yearly track to Washington Island.

Steak was bland, I had to use A1 on a medium rare New York strip. Also I had a glass of cab that tasted like vinegar. I'm sure there's some good stuff here, but boy this was not it.

Drink a shot of bitters, and become a member of the bitters club. Tom Nelsen keeped this bar open during prohibition by getting his pharmacist license and serving bitters. It a great place to hang out.

Historic and fun place to visit. Decent food, but one star deducted for serving deep-fried chopped pork patties as "tenderloin " sandwiches. This should be against the law.Don't forget to join the Bitters Club!

An okay place to visit, staff needs to be attentive to the customers.

A truly historic destination. I suggest a chaser when you try bitters.

First experience bad - waitress didn't understand I wanted fish, not on a sandwich. She had to check on the kitchen if they could do that. They could but had to charge for the whole meal (sandwich & fries). Asked for slaw instead of fries - said they were out. Cook came out as I was FINALLY leaving with my fish & said they did have slaw & went back to get me some. Girl wanted to charge me an extra $3 - I said no, then forget the slaw. The cook came out with 2 little cups of slaw (like you'd get with a side of mayo or something & said no charge. It took over 25 min. It was good food but not worth the fight. The next night I went with 3 friends & ended up here again. IT WAS WONDERFUL!!! Everything was delicious, salad bar was small but excellent & Everything even the salad dressings we're made there - home made pickled beets, potato salad, pasta salad, fresh hot garlic bread sticks, pickles. Great waitress, fast service, just great!

Was hoping to sample a variety of bitters, but angostura is the only option. Really cool history of the bar though. The shot was very different and kinda cool.

Did a shot of bitters which was better than I expected. The bratwurst patty lunch special was great!

Bad food and worse service. I thought the grilled cheese would be safe. Cheese wasn't even melted. Waitress was rude. Didn't even bother with the bitters club. Wasnt worth the time.

Great Place for dinner and delicious bar food. I had the wings and they were amazing. It has a unique rustic feel and historic tradition. If you go I recommend joining the bitters club!

Conquered becoming a member of “The Bitter’s Club”! Cool local history. The building is fascinating inside & out. Very good selection of beers, cocktails, other adult refreshments. Unfortunately we did not come to eat but have heard good things from other patrons. Bar keep very friendly & helpful. Need to visit for a meal soon.

Waitress seemed to be new to the job. But otherwise the atmosphere, food, and drink here was excellent.

This was our first time and we made sure to become members of the bitters club! We enjoyed frie day staff and patrons. Dog friendly too!

Very poor pizza. Staff did not accept poor food burnt an issue. Food was average. Service was worse. Please go if you have no other option.

If you want an original taste of island life come to Nelsens. You walk into this place assuming your gonna get the same treatment/food as you would any other bar on the island but it's not even close as far as non natives can say food is great (not 5 star but amazing +3 for bar)happy to go again 😁

Service was ok. Food wasn't great. Prices were ridiculous. $10 for a below par old fashion.
